Miss September 2010

You know all about my first Newfoundland Dog, 'Bella, who died at only 2 years of age and the heartbreak my Paul and I felt (still do.)

Anyway, last summer there was a callout for photos from the NEWFS GONE BAD calendar. It is an all Newfoundland dog calendar and each month's photo is of a Newf...well....a newf gone bad doing all types of mischievious and very funny things.

All proceeds from the calendar sales goes to the Newfoundland Health Challenge.

In memory of my Bella I sent in this photo. She was not quite three months old the day I discovered the mischief she'd been up to in the bathroom.

Well, the magazine loved it and so my 'Bella is immortalized as Miss September 2010. I'm attaching the calendar photo of Bella after she'd redecorated our washroom.

There is a limerick next to each photo in the calendar. Bella's limerick reads:

While on the throne poised like a queen
And disposing of last night's cuisine
It is much agreed
One needs something to read
Other than this old magazine.
Love, Bella

The magazine in the foreground of her photo is one of Paul's motorcycle magazines.

I'm just tickled pink to have our sweet girl as Miss September. She's died from health issues and this was a great way for us to support more research and cures for Newfoundland dogs.

We're baaaaaaaaaaaack!!

Helloooooooo Every doggie!

Gabe here wishing you well and wondering how your summer was? Our two legged momma (Jennifer) was really naughty about posting on our blog this summer. Hey! We are lovely doggies. So why no photo opportunities for us? She hangs her head and says she's sorry for not blogging.

Anyway, here are just a few relaxed photos of us today. It was a very nice day. Not too hot for us and not too cold for the two legged momma.

Jennifer says she'll try to be better updating our blog in the future. She said something about being really busy with other things.

HEY! What could be more important than letting the world see how handsome I am??? (Ok...Willow and Paige are pretty cute too!)

Until next time,

It is H+O+T

Hi Every doggie!

Paige here, barking on behalf of Gabe and Willow. It is H+O+T today. That means that we can barely work up a good drool.

This is what we do on a hot day. We sit.... or we lay down.... or some of both.

These pictures of us were taken today at about 7 a.m. That's in the morning for those who don't know. I didn't know. I just know it isn't as hot in the morning as it is in the afternoon.

Yep! This is what we did today. Uh huh. What did you do?

Our two-legged, furless mom (Jennifer) says that if you want to do something fun then you should flip through these picture of us really fast it will be like a motion picture.

I think the heat has gone to her brain.

Well, that really is all we did today. Maybe tomorrow it will be a bit less hot and we'll do something really exciting. Like maybe be able to work up enough drool to fling it on each other.

Stay cool!

Woofs, but no slobbers this time,

Your Newfie Pals,

Paige, Willow and Gabe

Man's best friends

What is golf? And why do the two legged, furless humans wear such crazy get ups to play golf?

This is my master, Paul. Paul is a really great two legged furless creature, but he does have some strange quirks. Being his loyal and trusted companion, I don't let on how funny I think he looks.

This might be one time where being blind isn't such a bad thing for Willow. She isn't missing out too much since she can't see how crazy looking our master is.

I don't think Paige was too impressed. She wanted to run off before the photo was snapped.

Tell us crazy things your two legged, furless masters do. We want to know. Paul did say he shot his best game ever in his new plus fours.

Until next time we send you big woofs and slobbers from your three Newfie pals,

Gabe, Willow and Paige

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!

"I'm a model and you know what I mean and I shake my little tush on the catwalk."

Arrooooo rooo roooooooooooo. I went to a professional groomer yesterday. I'm so beautiful I can hardly walk past a mirror without a wink at myself. Check out my day at the dog spa:

A Sunday Rainy Day

A rooooooooooo rooooo rooooooooooooo! Hi there. Willow here. It is a very, rainy rainy Sunday today. Gabe and I (and Paige too) have been out in the rain but only for a short time. We decided it is more fun to just take a nap on the floor together inside.

Gabe couldn't wake up for the photo but trust me...we were snuggled up tight when Jennifer got the camera out.

What are you doing on this cold, rainy Sunday afternoon? We won't let the weather "rain on our parade." Napping is one thing we do well together!

Paige is 6 months old

Hello my furless blog reader friends. And hello to my fur friends who's furless owners let them read the computer blog pages.

I'm Paige! Today, I'm 6 months old! Woo hooooooo! I bet you thought these photos are of my brother Gabe. Nope! It is me, Paige who is Gabe and Willow's baby sister.

Our furless caretaker, Jennifer, decided that a good way to spend my 6 month old birthday was to go to the doggy spa and have a bath, brushing and nails done. Don't worry...no nail polish was applied.

I was a very, very good girl on the grooming table. The furless ladies who bathed and brushed me said I was very sweet! :) So guess what I did as soon as I came home? I went to the backyard and outside in the snow and mud.

Don't worry though. I didn't get muddy but arooo roooo roooooooo! I was tired from all of the day spa treatment. I need a nap.

Hey! How's a girl supposed to sleep if you stick that box thingy in my face?

OK, I'll sit pretty and pose if you'll give me a cookie. And yes! I got a cookie.

Jennifer says this bath won't show for long since the yard is still snow and mud and yuck. Come on spring!

Until next time I send all my friends great big Newfie woofs and slobbers.

I get a kick out of you!

Arooo rooo roooooooo! Hi everybody! Did you think we got lost? Jennifer has not been good about photographing us this winter, but don't worry. We are all very well and Paige is growing like a well watered weed! Ha haaaaaa...even in the snow. So without further ado, here is a little photo montage from today's play in the snow. Jennifer titled this post "I get a kick out of you!" because if you want to know the truth....she really does get a kick out of all three of us.

Paige at 5 months old posing with big brother Gabriel.

Willow. She is so beautiful and such a sweetheart. We all love her so much!

Paige: Just look at how big I'm getting!

Gabe is usually too busy to strike a pose but he did pause long enough from his stick to look back at the camera.

Paige is watching Willow and Gabe playing in the snow and she strikes a nice pose.

Willow and Gabe taking a break from rough housing in the snow.

Paige is a very bright, attentive and alert puppy. Just call her name and she is ready to please!

Gabe and Willow discovered an old sock in the snow. It is frozen hard but they are sure they've made a new discovery of their old toy.

Paige: remember the photos of Paige on the ramp in December? Look and see how much she's grown!

Paige takes a turn playing with the stick with Gabriel.

Paige and Willow take a break together. Paige loves her big sister, Willow.

Have you ever seen a more disheveled Newf? Gabe is wet, tired and happy after enjoying some snow play.

Finally, Miss Paige saying "See you soon!"

Even MORE snow!

Guess what? I bet you already guessed right, eh? Well, we got more snow! That's right. Yesterday we had a huge, gigunda snow storm. In one day over 30 centimeters fell. That's a lot of snow. All three of us got to play in it while Jennifer shoveled out the fenceline so Gabe won't jump the fence. Here are some random photos of us enjoying the snow.

Paige: WOW! It's a good thing Jennifer made us paths to walk around in!

Paige: I'm on a long path to somewhere. Just not sure where.

Willow: Out for a short stroll on a cold winter's day. Wait! It isn't winter for ten more days!

Willow: This looks like a good spot to take a rest.

Willow: Shall I strike a pose for you?

Gabe: I'm playing snowplow today.

Paige: Where did everyone go?

Gabe: Let's see...last year I could jump the fence over here. This looks like a new fence though.

Paige and Willow: It's cold out here. You want to go inside and play?

Willow: I think I'll stay out and enjoy the cool air a little longer.

Paige: Doesn't anyone want to come inside and play?

Paige: Can you tell how much I'm growing? I'm getting to be a big dog!

Paige: Behind me, beneath all of the snow are our bushes under our front room window. They have Christmas lights on them. I guess this year we won't be seeing the Christmas lights.

Paige on a mission.

Paige: I know there is something on the other side of all of this snow. I think it is our garden flag.

Paige: I'm going to check out the flag.

Well, I made it over the mountain of snow and discovered.............more snow!

I'm going inside now. All of the snow play has made us sleepy.

The weather prediction for tomorrow is.........MORE SNOW AGAIN!

Let it snow!

Hi everyone,

It's me...Paige. Guess what? I love the snow and it is a good thing too because we have a lot of it. Gabe was playing with me in the snow last weekend. We had fun. Sometimes it might look like he's being rough but trust me when I say, he is a very gentle big brother. And, I like jumping up and pulling his ears and leg feathers.

First I had to learn to go slowly down the ramp.

OOOoops! I slipped! Ha ha ha ha....this is fun!

Maybe I can sneak up on Gabe while he's looking for me under the ramp.

Awww shucks! He sees me!

I've been rolling in the snow. Can you tell?

Gabe: This is my obligatory pose for the camera. Hurry and take the picture!

Paige: I'm so cute!

Paige: Watch me pretend I'm a snowplow!

Paige: Maybe if I'm real still Gabe won't see me in the snow.

Paige: Watch out Gabe! I'm going to get you!

I have a couple of videos for you too. This first video was taken on November 25th and the first real snowfall I got to play in.

Now this next video was taken 10 days later. (Last Friday) See how I'm growing and I'm not afraid of the snow at all! I had a lot of fun playing with Gabe!

We'll take pictures of Willow playing in the snow too.

Brrr....time to dry off and warm up now.

Food, Glorious FOOD!

A question Jennifer and Paul are frequently asked about us is, "How much dog food do Newfoundland dogs eat?"

Well, let's just say we do like our meals. Yes indeedily do, we like to eat.

Jennifer feeds us a Canadian made dog food kibble called Orijen 6 fish. It contains 70% premium fish ingredients and the remaining 30% is made from fruits, vegetables and botanicals. It is grain free too so no fillers and yucky stuff.

Now, to answer the question, "How much?" Willow and I eat 1 cup in the morning and 3 cups in the late afternoon totaling 4 cups per day. Paige, the baby, eats 3/4 of a cup three times per day and also she gets an eyedropper full of baby multivitamins once a day, as well as about two tablespoons per day of plain yogurt.

In poundage for all three of us we eat approximately 90 pounds of dog food a month, or three 13.5 KG bags per month. That is, three bags total for all three dogs, NOT three bags a piece.

So there is your answer. As adults, Newfs eat approximately the same as a Lab or any other large dog. Puppies, however, actually eat more than adults by their weight.

Now if only Jennifer would take more flattering photos of me and Willow. She was laughing at us this morning while we were standing side by side eating our breakfast. Of course she takes a "cutesy" photo of Paige chewing on the bag. Gee whiz...the baby gets all of the good photo shots!

All of this talk about food is making me hungry! Until next time,

My brother is the best brother in the whole world!

Hi everybody!

I want to introduce myself to you personally. I'm Paige and I'm 8 weeks old. I've only lived with my new brother and sister (Gabe and Willow) for five days now, but I love them so much. Especially Gabe. He lets me climb on him and nip his ears and pull his tail. And you know what? He still keeps letting me play. He sleeps next to my jail cell each night. "JAIL CELL" you ask? Yes. Jennifer puts me behind bars every night but she calls it a doggie crate. I say it is jail. But it isn't bad. Really! AND...what really makes everyone happy is that I sleep all night long without waking up. Only the first night did I wake up and even then, Gabe came to my jail cell and whispered to me and said it was time to sleep and in the morning we could play together.

So here are a couple of videos of how Gabe and I played. I had so much fun!

Sleepless nights

Dear Jennifer and Paul,

While Willow and I truly appreciate the new little creature you brought into our family, we would also appreciate it if you could get her a hotel room at night so we could get a little shut eye.

Woofs and slobbers from your ever devoted,

Gabe and Willow

Introducing PAIGE!

Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful? Isn't she precious?

Paige, our new little Landseer Newfoundland pup just arrived home to us tonight and we all love her dearly! Paige is just 8 weeks old and is such a tiny little girl. Willow and I are very careful around her because she is smaller than our cats.

And do you want to know what Jennifer and Paul decided to name Paige on her CKC papers? We like it a lot! Paige's registered name is Beardog's A Paige of our Story. Isn't that a beautiful name? It means a lot to Willow and me because they've chosen her name as a sort of legacy to our beloved sister, Bella. Paige is a new "page" of our Newfie family story and while we miss 'Bella tremendously, we know that little Paige will grow up and carry on the legacy in our family begun by 'Bella.

But you want to see photos of our new little baby sister, don't you? Well, we've only been home a few hours so we took these really fast. I'm sure in the next days to come we will inundate our blog with lots and lots of photos of me and Willow and Paige.

So, without further ado...........heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's PAIGE

Somethin's coming! Somethin' GOOD!

‘Tis two days before our new Newf puppy comes
and all through our abode,
We are cleaning and puppy-proofing,
And picking up dog doo by the load.

The dog bowls are lined up
In the kitchen in a row.
Just waiting for Paige’s first meal
With her sister and bro.

Gabe and Willow are sleeping
All sprawled across the beds,
While visions of a new baby sister
Dance through their heads.

Jennifer in her tam,
And Paul in his cap,
Are readying the car
And looking over the map.

To the breeder's home they’ll drive,
With excitement and glee.
They’ll bring home the new puppy,
What a big welcome she’ll receive.

Her name will be PAIGE,
A new chapter in our Newf book.
We’ll post photos of her soon,
So you all can have a look.

So on Paul, on Jennifer,
On Willow and Gabe!
Prepare a welcome home party
For the new Newfie babe.

And you’ll hear our family exclaim
On Paige’s homecoming night.
Welcome new little one.
You’re a beautiful Landseer sight!
